At our school, we are proud to be an active member of the Green Schools Programme, Ireland’s leading environmental education initiative. Through this whole-school approach, we encourage our pupils to take real ownership of environmental projects and to make meaningful, positive changes within their school and community. Our Green Schools Committee, made up of enthusiastic pupils and staff, meets regularly to plan initiatives, monitor progress, and celebrate achievements.
We work through the Green Schools themes in a hands-on, engaging way, helping children develop lifelong habits of sustainability. Pupils participate in activities such as litter picking, composting, energy monitoring, biodiversity walks, and caring for our school garden. These experiences allow students to learn not only about environmental issues but also about teamwork, responsibility, and active citizenship.
Our school community plays an important role in supporting this work. Families, staff, and local partners help us promote greener choices such as Walk on Wednesdays and Cycle Safety programmes. Together, we aim to create a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.
