Principal’s Welcome
Welcome to Muire gan Smál.
Our school is nestled in the heart of Castleisland. We have been part of the town’s fabric for generations. The primary school in Castleisland was built in Convent Lane (now the Convent) in 1850. A second primary school was built in Church Street in 1898. The current primary school building opened on February 1 st 1966.
Our school is a welcoming, inclusive setting guided by Catholic values.
In Muire gan Smál, every child is known, valued and encouraged to grow – not just academically, but socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Our school motto is :
Care, Courtesy and Consideration for Others
From outdoor adventures to cultural celebrations, from sport to environmental action, our boys and girls thrive in a vibrant and supportive school community. Learning here happens everywhere – in classrooms, gardens, on the yard and beyond – always with curiosity, kindness and connection at its heart.
On a personal level it is a great privilege for me to serve as principal of Muire gan Smál in Castleisland. I am honoured to be part of the rich history of education in this town and I am delighted to be leading our school towards a bright and exciting future.
You are very welcome to our website and we hope that you will find it
both informative and user friendly.
Le gach dea-ghuí,
Seamus Moynihan
