January 2019 Newsletter

Eanair 2019

Fáilte/Welcome

Ath-bhliain faoi mhaise daoibh go léir agus fáilte thar n-ais ar scoil. Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to school. As we start a new year, we would like to extend a very warm welcome back to everyone. Let’s hope 2019 is a great year for everyone.

Open Evening Thursday January 31st from 6:30-8pm. All are welcome

Our open night is coming up soon. If you’re interested in enrolling a child please join us. If you know someone who may be interested please let them know. On the night you will have an opportunity to explore the school and its facilities.

Prospective pupils will get a chance to meet other pupils and play games in the classrooms and in the halla. We’ll have a bouncy castle, face-painting and educational interactive games on the night. Children can explore the play areas including the outdoor classroom, the basketball court and the soft-play areas.  Inside they can discover their new classroom and meet the teachers. You’ll also get a chance to meet the staff from the Pre-school and After-school service and some teachers from the Boys’ School.

Le meas,

Máire Ní Loingsigh (Príomh Oide)

Cispheil/Basketball

There’s no better way to celebrate the holidays and enter the New Year reenergised than to have played in the Blitz. It’s definitely the place to be over the Christmas period!

Our two teams performed amazingly well with our Senior team reaching the semi-finals and our Junior Team narrowly missing out on a win in the final. The girls showed super determination and skill and more importantly had fun and displayed a real sense of teamwork. We want to thank everyone involved especially our coach Tommy Dom O Connor, Ms Sweeney, and all at St. Mary’s Basketball Club.

 Visit to the Daycare Centre

Fifth and Sixth class would like to thank Castleisland Daycare Centre for the invitation to visit them before Christmas. We also really enjoyed the opportunity they gave us to entertain everyone with the help of our dancers from Junior Infants and carol-singing from our choir. Go raibh mile maith agat to Garvey’s as well for inviting the choir to take part in their Christmas customer night and for the chance to carol-sing in the shop before Christmas.

Ceolchoirm na Nollag/Christmas Concert

Well done to all the boys and girls, the staff and parents and all who helped with the Christmas Concert. It was a fantastic success and enjoyed very much by all who were on stage and by those who came to see it. Also, thanks to all the supporters of our Christmas raffle, especially those who sold tickets and sponsored prizes.

Road Safety/Sábháilteacht Bhóthair

We would ask you for your continued cooperation in keeping the set down areas at the roundabout outside the school clear of traffic. These are not parking spaces but are for drop-off and pick-up only. They need to be clear for emergency access. Thank you.

Our Daily Mile Challenge

All children led by our Active School Committee are working very hard towards achieving “The Active School Flag”. For the month of January Our Active School Committee have organised ‘The Daily Mile Challenge’ for our school. We are delighted to be part of this wonderful Primary Schools initiative that can make a great impact on the fitness, health, and general wellbeing of school children all over Ireland.

The Daily Mile is a by schools-for schools initiative designed as a way of children achieving improved health and wellbeing through daily physical activity. This week we walked a mile together around the Ríocht track each morning.  J  #BeHealthyBeActiveBeHappy
